Wikimania 2006

Here’s the latest conference I’ve decided I have to attend:

Wikimania 2006, the second annual international Wikimedia conference, will be held August 4–6 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, within the Harvard Law School campus. Both a scientific conference and a community event, Wikimania brings together members of the various Wikimedia projects in order to exchange ideas, build relationships, and report on research and project efforts. It also provides an opportunity for Wikimedians and the general public alike to meet and share ideas about free and open source software, free knowledge initiatives, and wiki projects worldwide. More about Wikimania…

The prominent speakers are too numerous to mention,  but include Jimmy Wales, Lawrence Lessig, Clay Shirky, Yochai Benkler, Meredith Farkas, Dan Gillmor, Brewster Kahle, Alex Halavais, and many others.  I’ve already registered.  Maybe I’ll see some of you there?

  1. Maybe–I’m super busy, and I think Derek is going to present, but I may try to make it up for at least some of it.

  2. I’m thinking 2006 must be the Year of the Conference. Something has definitely changed, allowing everyone to easily put on a conference when the mood strikes.

I think we should hold a conference to talk about it….
